Which home do you think would be the best choice for the growing Prodigal family?

    • The Prodigals are growing
...and we need a new home! •

We've already done the math and well here are the minimum requirements and here are a few blueprints we've been handed by our homebuilding project manager/architect: just click on the pics for the floorplan.

here's our current home... as you can see it's just not nearly big enough for all the newest members of the family...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Updated requirements:
    • minimum size: 5,000 square feet
    • must be largely in a traditional American style on the exterior
    • must be multi-cultural on the interior with the exception of the foyer which must still maintain the architectural style of the exterior. (we're a rather multi-cultural group, in fact! ;) )
    • there must be a Great Hall (or gallery) that allows for 5' of unobstructed space and at least 60' of length at some point for well... general shenanigans! :laugh2:
    • a music performance room
    • a two level library
    • an 18' by 32' conservatory near the kitchen area somewhere. (one of our members will be providing us with it... she's hookin' us up too!)
    • a minimum of 6 bedrooms and an extra room for "sleepovers"... if necessary.
    • the final plans will include a full basement sectioned off into rooms and access to the Sanke's lair.
    • there must be at least two secret rooms... one in the basement and one off the library via a bookshelf , of course! :p
    • a climate controlled wine cellar in the basement with a seating area.

I believe that's it for now... anyway tell us what you'd like in your dream home and help us decide what we want before we begin to dig.

Current Prodigal family members in no certain order:
Black Kat (The Prodigal daughter), Jeanie (Prodigal Mother), G-man (Prodigal Daddy), Zelriptha (Prodigal "Uncle"), Luiza (Prodigal Aunt), Si, Pol, Sk8r, VoG, Vbrio, Nyxan (Prodigal "Black Sheep" Sanke), Alcozma (Prodigal Cheeky Seal), Flea, CyberCat (Prodigal Kitty Cat)...

    Oh boy, a new house!

I'd say we need something nice and big... besides we've got quite a bit of family wealth, so we can afford the very best! ;)

That we do but... with our wealth comes responsibility and besides... we don't want to flaunt it too much... or scare anyone off either! ... well 'cept for the occasional door to door solicitor and your occasional Jehova's Witness... :laugh2:

Well I admit I do still like the Georgian Colonial Revival style... but the problem is that the 4,000 sq. ft. and the 4 bedrooms... I suppose we could alter the exterior of one of the others to brick Georgian Colonial... and don't worry we'll still keep that 'un too! ;)

and we can do that Nyx! But may I make one suggestion? ...that you update the Titan II to the Minuteman III. (It's a bit outdated and well quite frankly I just don't want anything like that too outdated so close to the house! :laugh2: We'll begin the digging off the garage... and provide a secret access into the basement via a small underground swimming pool with a secret tunnel...

Orrrr... we can redesign the interior??? tomorrow's passtime perhaps... or maybe we can just pop the 4000sq ft Georgian mini house out by the pool and I'll live a life of peaceful recluse?

technicalities, technicalities... ;)... who needs a missile in such an  affectionate  family setting.... he can repurpose the silo for... umm..... food storage??

I remember every house my lil bro designed when we were kids (think late 70's/early 80's here) had its own roller-rink ! All of mine had secret/doors and passages.. can I have some secret passages to my room pretty please??

Reality speaking... the things I'd change about my house.... wiring for one. I've always said that if I built a house I would run more wires throughthe walls BEFORE they were finished than might ever be necessary... T1, Cable, Speakerwire, Opticalfiber... whatever suits the budget. If you go with the mini georgian... I've a friend's Aunt whose house (similar in size to the smaller one) was designed on the exterior to mimic a past president's house.. I knew exactly whos once upon a time... but I can't remember now :(... ANYWAY.... she had the foresight to have a coverable outlet on every windowsill for her electric candles.... She also had the attic space finished into a mini-theater space for little dramas.... lots of fun :)

hmmm..don't forget about the kitchen...we need to have a big pantry too for supplies and a separate freezer and refrigerator. it won't be bad to have another refrigerator to store the drinks for our parties.....don't forget the grill, one located in the yard would be fine...you know near the pool...and a pizza oven beside it would be great ;)

Well here's another pic of the "Mini Georgian"... I can scan in the floorplans too but there's plenty of wiring and it's easier since it's a new construction rather than a house that was built prior to the invention of computers, satellite, cable and home theatre systems... ;) The kitchen is already more than adequate also... biggest room of the two main levels... two huge refrigerators in the kitchen alone plus one in the master bed and one in the game room... two freezers and one huge one in the basement... oh and also some foresight with the windowsills... gotta' remember this... allow at least enough space for a 4" candle to fully fit on the sill! ...and with the chimneys... 2' regulation height above the roofline if within 10'... better safe than sorry! ...and just because it's that way in the plans doesn't mean it's legal...

3 inches will suffice on the windowsills ;) if we're talking width... in fact... shall we just manufacture the candles ourselves and hard wire them in?

As for the chimney, the higher the better... a nice draft across the top of your chimney makes starting the fire SO much easier!

Ah so just 3 inches will suffice for you then... funny somehow I would've thought you needed at least 6 inches... yeah my electric candles wouldn't fit on my sills... odd that I never noticed until I was about to put electric candles in all the front windows after Thanksgiving! Getting that fixed though... and right about the chimney... and not to mention all the eerie noises it creates in the middle of the night too! Along with all the creaking and popping of a newly constructed residence. :laugh2:
