Doesn't mandatory posting to be able to d-load midi just cause a lot of feeble threads to thrive, I don't mind, I am just curious if you agree..

Yes!! I delete threads and ban users every day. I'm doing it right now, in fact. This is the only way to prevent 'leeching'.

    1. You can read other posts anytime
    2. You can download files after you've made 5 valid posts
    3. To upload a file, use the 'Post a Reply' button just down and to the right of this post .

OK but what "5 valid posts" mean???
I'm now making some post to various topics, is this fine?
I hope only writing some posts will do the 5 posts job :)

I'm having trouble with this 5 points feature. Do replies count as points, or do only new threads count as points? I have posted 5 already, and I can't download anything

'points' and 'posts' are different things....

You get various amounts of points (MB cash, think of it as money) for some posts on the board, responding to promos, etc. These points do not affect your ability to download but rather to buy stuff in the feature store.

Posts are sensible and intelligent responses/new threads. 5 posts requires that you explore the community a bit before you run away with your freebie MIDIs! The community is iften what brings in the MIDIs - participation is paramount!

I can understand the leeching thing, I had my own site a few months ago, and due to leaching had to close it down, too many people taking and linking accross. my bandwith went from 1 gig a month to 47gig in 2 months!!!, that was when the T100 first came out..

is frustrating but I think youve come up with a good method, I also had a forum, and you do find that peeps just post for the sake of doing so (saying that this will pobs get deleleted now :) )

any way good look, and hope this method works.. haev you not tried any anti leach software??

It all seems a bit silly to me. In my opinion it just leads to the board being filled with junk posts from people who are after one small midi file, causing a lot more hassle and wasting a lot more bandwidth than if you just let them get the file to start with.

there are two sides to this:-
    a) you can get newbees who will post Cr(a)p on here to hit the 5 quota, and giveing the board a lot of rubbish
    b) you get genuine people who post tones and give out good info.

My personal opinion is that the general consensis is that newbees will post anything, like (nice post etc) just to reach the quote, I know of one poster who posted the same message on more than one topic just to get good results. He was removed by admin. :)

I can see admins problem, but for the meanwhile its the best method to stop leaching. I know of two other forums where they dont have this 5 post rule and they have around 200 midis on line, and only about 30 posts (in 1 year)

If people are made to post then at least 50% will give something back in return even if its just a link or help. and at the end of the day. thats is whats a forum is for, to offer info, help, guideance and gen info on a topic(s). Look at it this way, if you came here, and could get what you want without posting, then you would, and that defeats the whole object of the forum.

The only way I can think of improving on this is to make it so, insead of 5 posts, you had to post 5 new uploads, this way, more people benifit, as each user contrubutes.

If admin, had to authorise each post then it would be harder for a user like u and I to get on here in the first place, more work for admin and a major pain to sort out.

No doubt this post will get numerious `newbees` posting here with there `ideas` and getting them that extra posting point.

    all take no give...

the leech is a parasite that does little to help its host. Some relationships are symbiotic.... or Am I going a bit deep in the question here?

    hi guys,

I am a newbie and this is my 5th post. I am not sure if all 5 were valid but I think it is a good idea to make user post 5 times. I forces you to read and learn a little more about the site. I have to admit at first I was going to post junk to reach my quota but the more I tried to bull sh@t my way through the more I began to read and the more I learned. I like what I see here so far and I plan to donate in the future. Everyone has something to offer and I plan to do my part too.
