I'm looking for a midi file player, but it must be rack mounted to fit on our stage rig. I've heard that Akai do the s1000, s2000 etc. I know they are samplers but would any one of them work on stage as a live midi player.

Are the sounds good? Can it plug straight into a channel on a desk etc etc.

can i butcher it and put in a hdd?

    Any advice?

I don't think they would as they are samplers which are triggered by midi input. You load the samples off floppy disk or cd I think now and trigger it from a sequencer.

Thanks for your reply, I'm still learning on midi.

i got the link http://www.planet-groove.com/akai/s2000.html which says it plays standard midi files, if it would just play midis from a floppy thats all i need. I'm looking for a player to rack above our mini disc players.
