AKG 451 $ CK1/CK61...

Discussion in 'rec.audio.pro' started by Gantt Mann Kushner, Aug 28, 2003.

  1. I got my 451's back from AKG. They replaced the CK1 capsules w/ CK61's.
    I was
either misinformed or I misunderstood when I posted that they were
    replacing them
w/ CK66 capsules... They also sent back the old capsules, so I assume
    that if I hate
the sound of the CK61's I can find someone to rebuild the CK1's.

Are the CK61's the same capsules as the 460/480 series uses?

I have a few 451EB units and these are loaded with good CK1 heads. A couple
though are topped with a pair of older CK9 capsules taken out of the
original CK9 shotgun interference tubes, and these sound quite good other
than a good hit high end boost. I was thinking of sending them to Doug
Walker in Toronto, but I am curious about the expense and turn around time
    when dealing directly with AKG.

Don't know about the 480, but, yes, the CK61 is the cardioid capsule used in
    the 460.

The 480 is the same capsule with cleaned-up electronics.

So it's probably pretty much like the Audio Upgrades 460 version, but more
    expensive.

And SMD components rather than the top-flight passives Jim uses.
