Cakewalk is quite simple to edit length of a song..highlight and delete the tracks you want gone.
Cakewalk is the go! although you might want to find a shareware midi editor because Cakewalk Sonar is alot of money just to trim midi for your phone!
I've heard alot about what software to use and have tried the links...etc. The prices are totally high... any ideas on a full version that is cheap but good? Them crippled programs are just that crippled!!!!!!
I love cakewalk. It's totally simple and worth the money!
Try Emagic Micrologic. Brilliant programme easy to use and available for free download
I use Jazzware, its free very easy and you can adjust the volume as well as edit a midi file. I used to use it for my Sanyo scp5000.
lenght of midifile
The best program for this I think is Cakewalk
let's you do most anything
if you convert the midi file to a wav
Use Sound forge , has more control of the sound too
My favorite has been sonic foundry acid 4.0.
In my eyes cakewalk is the best one!
But everybody should make his own decision
I too use Cakewalk for this sort of thing. I find it simple when you get used to it. Just insert your markers either end of the section you want to copy. Highlight and copy - save into another file.
are there any websites like vcdhelp.com that show step by step instructions on how to make and convert midis?
something for xp preferrably
E magic Logic audio Platinum 4.7 definitely! It works with midi, wave and audio, check it out!

PSPLAYER will let you save any number of formats, as well as let you change the number of channels etc. (for making ringtones fit)
