Anybody Get Any Good Deals At the Guitar Center Sale?

Discussion in 'rec.music.guitar' started by chetatkinsdiet, Sep 2, 2003.

  1. Since everyone was complaining so much about the way GC does business
and all of that, I was wondering if everyone that went would like to
tell if they found any good deals. I have to admit, the one close to
my house usually has a bunch of really nice used gear that they've
priced too high, but always seem to dump it during these sales. I
missed the last one, I guess on Memorial Day where they literally
dumped about 4-5 Echoplexes for $200ea in addition to a ton of other
    desireable used gear.
For me, I picked up a few things yesterday. I grabbed one of the last
remaining Designer Series Silver Sparkle Jazz basses for $499. I
already had picked up the Strat and Tele previously and wanted to get
the whole set. I found out that they only made around 75-100 of each
of these. A US made guitar/bass from Fender for $500 aint a bad deal
    anytime, IMO.
I also grabbed a used (without a trace of being used), Gibson Les Paul
Goldtop 57 Reissue for $1499. Not just a breathtaking deal, but since
I'd been shopping for a Goldtop anyway, a nice find.
I also saw plenty of other things in there like one of those Gretsch
BS Models...the really high dollar versions of the 6120 he plays...go
    for $999.

atlanta, the sale started at 8 am and i wandered over at noon.

nothing really interesting left. lots of SALES on little Crate amps
and the usual, "markdowns" of low budget guitars they couldnt ever
    sell in the first place.

    I got up early,

I thought there were some decent buys, They had Bass Pod Pros listed
for 249. none left (They salesman said they had all sold the day
before, that got me scratching my head). A Roland ready strat for 200.
bucks. I, in my inimitable style, bought items not on blowout, a bass
pod (they kidney bean) for 200, though I might not keep it. The
salesman was nice enough to give me good price on a couple of sm57s
(71.99). And i got a Blue Baby Bottle for the regular price but it
included the pop filter/shockmount kit (lists for 150.) and a kiwi
    cable which sells for $49.

MPX500 was 199. Here in Looong Island,
    (sorry 8^D)
Just returned the bass pod...Fatman sound soooo much nicer, computers
were down had to take a store credit...sheesh

  6. That's a great deal on the Oktavas. I've already got a pair, but for
$50 ea, how can you go wrong? I noticed that they had some of the
319's for $49 as well. I should have gotten one just to check it out.
I saw those pods...I have an original guitar pod that's nice, but not
great. I too am a fan of recording bass directly into a good mic pre
and then compress the shite out of it. Great rock n roll sound.
They didn't have those Lexicons in the Dallas stores I went to...only
the 100 or 200, i forget the number.
