    Anyone use soundfonts?
If so, where do you buy your favourite and best fonts?
Has anyone found any really good free ones or is it best to go for the professionally sold ones?

I have an audigy card (which gets slagged I know) but I am fairly new to all of this midi world stuff...

I bought some Will Lee bass soundfonts but found I use some I downloaded for free better. A good place to try might be http://www.hammersound.net/ , The Gold Drums (2nd page of Drumkits section) are my "go to" drums.

Yes, I'm into sound fonts. They're awesome. I have a pretty good library and have even played with Vienna, the soundfont library manager. If you don't have a good sound source, then soundfonts are the way to go. You can probably download sound libraries that are as good as ones you might purchase.

What kind of sound card are you using?

Soundfonts basically replace midi sound with sampled sound so instead of hearing this - Midi.mp3

    you hear this - Soundfont.mp3

For some REALLY good soundfonts (all free). Go to http://www.hammersound.net/

My favorite of them all is the Reality Soundfont and the Fluid Soundfont. Reality is really good for pop/rock midi files and Fluid is great for instrumental/orchestra midi files.

I have done a fair amount of soundfont creation myself - i used to create patches for my libraries for my sampler before that aswell.

I used to use soundfonts but they are unperdictable, and they don't sound as good as a REAL synth module. I just bought a Korg Trinity synth module, so I use that instead.
