Anyone have or regularly use these compressors? I might be able to pick
some vintage ones up from my employer that has no use for them. I know they
are legendary but how do they compare to my Summit DCL 200?

the Summit DCL 200 is an awesome box. the 525 won't replace it. it's
a different animal, it's solid state. better suited for individual
    tracks.

sounds like you're in a great position...who wouldn't want an employer
who has vintage api gear lying around with "no use" for them!

if he's really not using them, take one or two of the units home and
play around. try it on all sorts of individual tracks and then maybe
you could link two of them together and try some buss compression (i'm
not sure if they can be linked). they need a special "lunchbox" power
supply. maybe he has that somewhere.

but you're in the best position of all... free and immediate access to
them. you don't need to guess at all, unless you can't find the power
    supply.

I have a pair of 525's, and yes they can linked. They are not as
flexable, but I think they sound way better than the DCL-200.

    Hello,
At least one thing you should be aware of,
some of the older 525's will not just plug in
    to modern API type frames/lunchboxes.
The edge connectors are the same, but the
    pin outs are different.

API will supply the info needed to correct that.
