I've just seen on a poll asking 'Are Bass Players musicians?' and heard mention of one about drummers too so I thought I'd have a similarly pointless poll of my own (if it gets through the moderators).

Why? Firstly, I may be wrong but feel anyone who has taken the time to learn an instrument to reasonable proficiency and most of all enjoys and is active in playing music is a musician? Good music should come from the heart not the ego. As for skill it obviously depends on the individual, they may not be great but that wasn't the question asked.

Secondly, in reference to drummers and bassists not being musicians, I don't understand where this prejudice against the rhythm section comes from. Bass and drums seem to be considered by some to be an easy option, less important or requiring less skill (laughable in itself as I think drums are harder to play than guitar) but at the end of the day you probably need us more than we need you.

A suitable analogy of a band would be most team sports. They may not be the coolest positions in the team but if the defence and goalie were always up front trying to score spectacular goals to show the crowd how super they were the team would fall apart. To quote Faith No More 'It's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it'... but then again maybe we just play them because we actually (surely not!) prefer playing them to other instruments. Not everyone wants to go widdly widdly as fast as they can ;)

So how about we stop trying to belittle other people's choice of instrument? Each to their own; be it bass, drums, tuba, bodhran or lead electric triangle.

Musicians are really whiners at heart

Do we have to play that song again ?
    I need a ride !
    It's just a small drum kit !
He keeps throwing me off time
    I can't count it in
Well ... when I played it with my last band it worked
Why do we have to wear these clothes

................just a few that sprung to mind
    let's hear yours

Were your last band some kind of naturists if they were questioning the wearing of clothes? ;)

    How about...

    Can't we book practice earlier?
    Can't we book practice later?
The power keeps cutting out on my pedal.
Do we have to play it in that key?
    It's too fast/slow

    Very well put Rich_b.

Especially the bit about drums are harder to play than guitar. I play bass now, but used to play drums years ago when still at school, and they wre bloody hard to play anything like good!

p.s. Is "Hooters" bar/restaurant still open in Brum?
I was in Birmingham a few years ago and it's a good place to pop into for a drink.

Thanks Bazzer, I'd love to learn to play drums but I live in a terrace and my walls are too thin lol.

Sadly Hooters is no more lol.
