Can't seem to find any decent sounding ones. www.midi-tab.com is very good but that site is for sale and no more updates.
Anyone fellow guitarist can recommend a few?
    Thanks in advance

You could try searching for midi files at www.musicrobot.com.

However, quality of midi files from the net is often pretty bad!

Be prepared to do some resequencing / fixing to get them to sound right. (particularly the drum tracks!!) Unfortunately, the best way to get good sounding midis is either to sequence them yourself or buy them from a commercial midi file distributor like hittracks.

I've been sequencing my own files for about 10 years now, and have a fairly comprehensive 70s, 80s, 90s rock collection. If you could be a bit more specific about exactly which songs you're looking for I may be able to email some to you.
Try requesting the songs you need in the midibuddy requests board as well.

Unfortunately I know nothing about sequencing. I am a guitarist and have always played with live instruments in a band so I am dpendent on kind people like yourselves.

For the time being, I am after anything fromThe Eagles, America. Sampa Pa Ti & Europa from Santana, Day after Day from Badfinger. Do you have a list of your collection? Maybe I could purchase some off you.

Are your files without guitars? If yes, that would be even better. My friend and I will add our guitar bits instead.
    Many Thanks

    Hi Soulwalker,

Yep, I'm a guitarist so my files won't have the lead guitar bits (or the vocal melodies for that matter).

Its easy enough to mute the tracks/instruments you don't want to hear anyway.

I'm a bit tied up with gigging this weekend, but I'll put a list of files together and email it to you next week sometime.
I'm not really interested in selling the files - but I'm quite prepared to give you a few to get you started.

    Hi Pat,
Haven't forgotten about your list, just trying to find time to fit everything in this week!

While I'm still busy getting it together, what software are you gonna use to play back the midi files? Also, are you just using your computer soundcard as a midi module, or do you have external modules such as a Roland Sound Canvas?

This info will make it easier for me to send you usable midi files when the time comes.

    Hi Midifromza
Initially I am just going to use my computer sound card. Once I get a sizeble collection, I hope to convert to wav/mp and burn to cd.
Would that be ok or will that cause any issues?
    Many thanks
    Pat

Should be OK, you'll probably need to get some sort of midi editor software though. You'll need this because you'll probably have to remix the files - the relative volumes between instruments vary from soundcard to soundcard. What this means is that a file thats perfectly mixed for my system may not be right on yours. (bass too loud, etc)

A proper midi editor will also allow you to mute tracks (eg guitar tracks) that you don't want to hear.

There are several freeware/shareware editors available on the net. If you're going to convert the midi files to wav or mp3, may I suuggest you download a program called Wingroove (do a google search, you should find a download site)- its a software version of the Roland sound canvas, and has track mixing/muting facilities. It will also render a CD quality wav file from the midi, which you can then convert to mp3. The only problem with it is that you can't save any changes you make as a midi file, only as a wav file. So you should probably still get some other midi software in case you want to modify midi files. Check out simtel.net or download.com for shareware/freeware midi editors.

    Cheers,
    Charlie

Nothing fancy. Just a normal 128 bit sound card. Hence my hope to burn to cd.

Wingrove will do all what I want and need? ie edit (mute) unwanted instruments and convert midi to wav?
    I am using win xp pro. Should I d/load WinGrooveVersion 0.A4 Beta-2?
At the end of installation, I can select whether wingroove is installed as adevice driver or not. What does this mean and what should I do?

    Many Thanks
