I use dreamweaver mx, front page sucks for one reason, and that is because it doesn't write proper HTML, instead it writes code which works best with IE. So you put users of other browsers (opera, netscape, all unix browsers) with errors on the site.

A professional designer uses an editor which works good for all browsers.

    notepad 4 life!!

i use frontpage when i have to but that makes really messy HTML so i usually just do it in notepad - no messy HTML from that! must be the cheapest option too :)

it is depending on what you prefer:

    1. a so-called WYSIWYG editor:
i would use dreamweaver mx but if you want to use it legally you oughta pay for it :-(

    2. a text editor:
here i would prefer, as recommended before 1st page 2000 where you have switchable skill modes (beginner, expert and more) and you have a preview mode too

I for myself use a normal text editor with syntax highlighting because its the only way to write XHTML conform tags (as soon as i know) and i can write php and stuff

I use Dreamweaver MX and Arachnophilia. Arachnophilia is not a WYSIWYG editor but it is pretty good if you're proficient in HTML. It can also be used for Java Source File, C++ Source File, CGI Script, Perl Script, RTF File, ASP among others. You can download it from http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.html

I prefer to design everything in photoshop and then pick at the code to get what I want. Dreamweaver makes it too easy :)

I've used Dreamweaver MX and it is easy, which is good. Back in the day, I used to use the Netscape one (Composer?) and an old version of Frontpage. I use Photoshop sometimes, but I'm more comfortable with Paint Shop Pro.
