can anyone recommend a good (read...not cheap...willing to pay some serious bucks) midi scanner that can read sheet music and convert it?

I came across this while searching the net. It's a program which claims to all you to scan sheet music and convert it to MIDI. It's called Photoscore.

    re converter

You can use software such as Finale and Sibellius (not sure about sibellius, but I know Finale will do this) in conjunction with a scanner and the software will interpret the sheet music for you. Havent tried this but I know it is a function.

Theoretically, Finale should convert the music becuase of the way it reads it. In practice, it's never worked for me. I just go back to the good old type-every-note-by-hand method. They have programs that convert scanned text to work documents, but its not that accurate or effective, as far as I've found out, the sheet music to MIDI isn't that much better. If anyone determines differently, however (maybe I'm just missing something) it'd save me a heck of a lot of trouble :)

That would be an OCR type device, right?
