    Hey all,

As you all know, Drums is my first instrument but, untill now, there
have not been any live drums on the site. Due to limited recording
facilities & the lack of sound proofing in my living room, my main
instrument has been almost impossible to record.

Well here it is, a live drum solo taken from last sunday's tutor
concert at the music school where I work.

    MP3 Download: http://www.cloud9mission.com/music/mp3/drums.mp3

    Listen in RealAudio: http://www.cloud9mission.
    com/music/realaudio/ram/drums.ram

    Enjoy

    God bless

    Very nice Lewis.

Nice solo. It would have been better if you recorded the entire tune so
we could tell what the solo was in reference too. No matter what we
play, it needs to be important for the music before anything else.

Damnit! I get this Media Player every time I try to hear you guys and it loads
up and then plays for a few seconds and quits. I try to reload and have to go
through the process again, same abrupt results. I'm on CompuServe. Any other
way to bring these streams up?

Try right clicking on the hypertext link, and choosing the "save link
target as" option (or whatever your browser calls that function).

This will save the entire file to some directory on your machine (E.G.
C:\temp). Once saved to disk, you have it permanently on your machine
and you can listen to it as many times as you want without needing to be
    connected to the internet.

Thanks, Chris. Problem is, when I right click on a hyperlink my only option is
"select all". I did notice that Lewis gave a separate link for Real Audio, but
    it didn't work :-/

OK, I have copied the MP3 file to my namespace on RMMP.net

Try this link instead (also try the right click trick again):

    I concur,

Some musical context would be nice. I have a friend who says all drum
solos sound like rock falling down wooden stairs.

    Diigity diigity,
    doogity, doogity,
    dehgity, dehgity,
    dugity dugity crash.

In this case the playing is nice (excepting the time drift which is
some kind of natural law for drum solos) and the drums sound nice but
this is the kind of solo that sends crowds to the beer stand. To my
ear this is just a collection of riffs without a creative inspiration
besides that of "these are the cool riffs I know that fit this tempo".
It needs some tension and release building to give it some drama.

I know I'm being a little harsh but these are the things that make me
hate most drum solos. Mostly I like solos that are really musical ala
Max Roach, Topsy II, Let there be Drums or in rock, solos in time with
at least a shred of the music still going on for a framework. Aja of
course and Omar Hakim on "I burn for you" off of the old Sting Video
    are examples.

    Hi Lewis,
I loved it! Thanks for letting us hear. it. I realize the recording quality
isn't the greatest and it wasn't done in a studio, but I could tell I really
liked your tom sounds. Can you provide a little info on your tuning, heads,
and some technical stuff about the mics, etc. ?

    Thanks!
