Is it possible to embed karaoke text insid a midi file or how is it
done when working with vanBasco?

Yes, all you need is a MIDI karaoke editing application. Some
sequencers including the ability to add lyrics -- Powertracks Pro
(www.pgmusic.com) and Cakewalk (www.cakewalk.com) both allow for this.
But dedicated karaoke lyric apps can be easier to use, and also are
more likely to generate lyrics which will play on most MIDI karaoke
Check out the group alt.binaries.karaoke, the FAQ for it is at

GNMIDI software has two song text editors for MIDI:
karaoke editor: synchronize syllables to melody
synchronization editor: synchronize text lines in real time while
playing the song
results can be converted in different MIDI lyric formats e.g. .kar,
..mid, special formats for some keyboard displays
Separate names with a comma.
