Sultan of Swing, Rock and Roll Fantasy, come to mind right off the bat. I am sure if I thought about it I could come up with more.

I actually quit a band because they started getting snotty because I refused to play Creed. Oh well I play for enjoyment and thats that.

Brown eyed girl is THE most requested song in Australia. Second is Keh Sahn (for the non-Australians reading this, it is THE most overated song in history, by a band call Cold Chisel who, for some reason that escapes me, are revered like Gods here). I'll still play Van but NOT Chisel (well - a very drunk biker crowd could well persuede me.....).

But other songs that are crowd pleasers.....

Too many times - Mental as anything (Aussie band)

Baker Street (Note - I play in a duo with a sax player, so it's always requested)

    Stuck in the middle

I personally love opening with Crunchy Granola Suite (complete with 30 secs of orchestral opening).

    Cheers all

    I've been gigging for about 14 years, some of which were spent just doing originals. Now I just do covers and I don't rely on it for a living anymore, which takes the pressure off big time. I almost only do stuff these days that I really enjoy doing, like;
    Elvis Costello
    Warren Zevon
lesser known Beatles tracks like Golden Slumbers
    Died Pretty
    Stevie Wonder etc etc
This seems to please some of the people all of the time, and I've never enjoyed performing more. There's no better feedback than when someone comes up and says "I've never heard anyone cover 'XYZ song' and I love that song, good stuff mate." or "Great mix of songs mate, really different", which I get quite alot. So I encourage you to boldly play the stuff you love and try and drag the audience along with you. Arrogant as it sounds, alot of punters need their tastes broadened.

I play a lot of Moari pubs - so any reggae goes down a treat.

Any Marley, Dreadlock holiday, UB40, even Clapton reggae.

I have sung 'King of the road' by roger miller as my second song almost every night for my 23 year carear and I still love doing it 'cause it always gets a reaction when I go quiet on 'cigarettes' and the audience realise they sang it on their own.

There are many songs that are requested but the ones I find go down well are the ones noone expects. Here are few most requested and a few different ones for you to mull over.

    Something Good- Hermins Hermits
Best Years of our Lives-Modern Romance (cheesy but everyone gets up)
Come Up and See Me- Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel
I Predict a Riot- Kaiser Chiefs
Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Fat Bottomed Girls -Queen
Strong and Old Before I Die-Robbie Williams
    Something-The Beatles
    Still Got the Blues-Gary Moore

and one of the most requested

Is This the Way to Amarillo!!!!!!!!!!!! try doing a function without that(or Hey baby!) being requested

    Good Luck
