Could someone please teach me how to sequence the distortion guitar in a rock song? Is it played similarly to a bass guitar? My sequencing of this instrument sounds terrible!
You'll need modulation and pitch bend controllers to begin to approximate a realistic sounding distortion guitar. Check out some of miditibi's sequences in the old Self-Sequenced thread. I'm thinking especially of his version of Heart's Magic Man. There's also Foreigner's Cold As Ice. Anyway, do a little digging - miditibi is a top-notch guitar sequencer.
as far as the gm dist gtr sounds (the cheesiest ever),mod is kinda important and pb can be useful if you set it LOW (+2/-2 is nice and subtle),but my best sound come from tweaking (esp in real time)the decays and releases...most "fake"gtrs and even samples of real ones sound blatantly fake with short envelopes and dry effs...tweak res/cutoff,too...real dist gtrs have a natural lo-fi sound with cutting,hi-fi harmonics...good effs make all the difference
