I use anvil studio. its good if you dont want a really complicated program.
i use cakwalk/sonar...very user freindly
I just got a program and it only helped a little bit. i forgot whatit was called

Another way to make music is to download software for various instruments. For example, i've a software that allows me to sequence various percussion patterns. Then, i enrich it with 'desktop quitarist' sounds. Finally, i can add bass guitar, strings and lead to it using other software. One composite mixer will allow you to put all these sounds together. Lo! your midi song is ready!
