I have a SMPTE/MTC problem

I have a SMPTE/MTC problem with my Sonar programme.

Using an Audigy Platinum sound card I want to send Midi-Time-Code "out" from
my PC to an external drum machine (Akai MPC60) to run in sync. Something
that is quite straight forward & functional when attempted with programmes
    like SoundForge.

Following the help instructions, which (strangely) are sparse for sending
code - & not for receiving, I've had no success.

    Can anyone help?

The problem here is in understanding; you're confused about what MTC is. MTC
(MIDI Time Code) is a "time of day" clock that cannot be used to synchronize
tempo-based devices like a drum machine or sequencer. It's sole use is as a
way to send SMPTE data over MIDI.

What you need to enable is called MIDI Clock, or possible MIDI Sync. Cakewalk
supported MIDI Clock, so I think Sonar probably does as well; I don't believe
    SoundForge does.

Basic rule: if you need tempo-based time, you need MIDI Clock; for "time of
    day" synchronization, use MTC.
