    Hi all!

I need a program - freeware if possible - which can cut and do some basic editing on midi files... Any suggestions :confused2 ?

    Thanks

Visit the Anvil Studio homepage and look through there.

I know only some linux programms (noteedit or rosegarden-4), who a free of charge.
with them you can even do more then some midi basics.
I know also a good programm for windows, but this is shareware.
(Melody Assistant, from www.myriad-online.com) It's one of cheapest notation/midi-apps (15$), and i got very good resulst with midis. They sound also good because the programm has build-in wavetable.

i like to use modplug tracker from www.modplug.com - it handles my midi keyboard well and can also use samples and vst effects ... and its free!! :)

That program is superb with MOD, XM, S3M, and IT, but is total crap with MIDI. Most high-end MIDI sequencers and editors out there already support VST, and a MIDI sequencer is just not a MIDI sequencer without MIDI_IN support. Do not get me wrong, ModPlug Tracker is a great program. It is the only one I use to loop samples for SoundFont.
