Well, technically, Kazaa is illegal now, since file sharing is illegal.

But people don't get fined for having Kazaa unless they're caught. It's the same thing with uploading lots of MP3s to your site: it's copyright infringement. Stealing. People aren't paying for their songs.

So yeah, you can get fined. If and when you're caught using it.

It's not all doom and gloom..

As long as you delete MP3s etc off your computer before 24 hours has elapsed since downloading them it is OK. It is also OK to keep them if you own the orignals.

What that it's illegal or that 70% of the files contain viruses?

I don't understand what you've written. What is your point about spyware and viruses? It is an unfortunite consequence.

    Kazaa contained spywares...

kazaa lite, in the earliest version shouldn't contain any...
    but who knows...

by the way.. it depends even in which country you live in ...
to be caught for illegal material downloading...

depends by the laws of your country... softer or harder...

    By itself kazaa ain't illegal...
i can sing my own song and share it with people...
i can do my drawing or painting and share...
    and so on...

it depends by the use you do...

    and by the way...
I'd caught more the people using piracy for commercial purposes and earn money rather than normal people that can always buy the original CD if an album is good ..for example

Actually, file sharing is not illigal, only the sharing of copyrighted material is illegal. If file sharing was illegal, all the companies creating p2p applications would be prosecuted. It has gone to court in a few countries with no avail. This is why the RIAA and BPI are now targeting the individual users and no the software creators.

The point is, Kazaa is perfectly legal, as long as you are not sharing or downloading copyrighted material (which you have not purchased)

Yea, I think its somewhat rational to an extent, because people can now download cds rather than buying them... Creating a loss in profit... but, new technology is always being made or discovered... Its almost like prohibition... Because people like it and its illegal, they will try alot more to find a way around it... in my opinion, I dont think piracy will ever end in this case...

    IMO: Piracy will NEVER end.

People always want the 'easy' way out.
I think if you tell everyone 'file sharing' is illegal, the only way you can stop that is to shutdown the internet!

Ever since I've started (a while back) to download songs off the internet, I've BOUGHT more cds. It's good to know WHAT you're gonna spend ~$20 on!

    That's all.

it's not illegal unless you're caught.

that's the law, and that's how it's always been.

just download all you want and and only keep about 25 percent in your shared folder at any one time, less risk of lawsuits that way

K-lite (kazaa lite) continues not to have any ads or spyware. They also have ip blockers to stop the RIAA scanners. Just don't share new files, over a thousand files, or overly popular ones. Beware of downloading from one person who has multiple versions of one file.
My feelings are mixed about file sharing. The technology itself is powerful, though its application is suspect. Though I can not deny the lure of free stuff, if I like an artist, I will be the fanboy, buy it, and show off the beautiful case to all my buddies. If it's crap, it's crap.

I had nothing but issues in the past with Kazaa. When I had it it always crashed my computer. The newer versions were the worst. I have always wondered why it was such a big deal.

However, the law actually does state that you cannot share the files with anyone. You can download all you want. I did read up on it rather carefully.

Check out eMule as an alternative. Not Kazaa but no spyware.

Is anyone really worried though? They've started it here in the UK too, I hear.

I'm certainly not gonna slow down.
