Jaguar and Yamaha UX16

Discussion in 'comp.music.midi' started by Christopher Corbell, Jun 5, 2003.

  1. I've tried three apps (including mine) with no
    luck yet...

Has anyone been able to get the Yamaha UX16
midi-usb cable working with Mac OS 10.2.x? I can
see the device in Audio / MIDI setup and activate
settings for it, but no note messages ever come into
    any apps (including MIDI Monitor).

    Thanks for any help,
    Christopher

The program, I trust is "Midi Setup". When you double-click the
instrument in this panel, then toggle the "more properties" arrow, have
    you stated which preferred transmissions?

Which interface are you using to connect the Yamaha to your computer?

Hmm... I'm not sure what you're asking. UX16 is the interface. It is
a USB midi cable. I just want to know if anyone has gotten this to work
in Jaguar. The MIDI controller in this case is a Yamaha P-80 keyboard,
    configured correctly.

Midi Setup is not the app - there is "Audio MIDI Setup" which is the
Apple utiltity. As mentioned, this app recognizes the UX16, where
I turn on the General MIDI setting and enable channel 1 i/o. The
UX16 also has its own System Preferences panel, and things are
    enabled there.

MIDI Monitor is a utility application which listens to MIDI devices and
prints out diagnostics on messages received. As mentioned, no messages
are every received from the P-80 via the UX16, in MIDI Monitor or any
other MIDI app I've tried. My other USB MIDI device (midiman Oxygen-8)
works fine in all of these contexts, so my suspicion is that the UX16 driver
is just broken. But if someone can attest to it working under the latest
Mac OS 10.2.x then I'll look for another cause...

    Thanks for any help,
    Christopher

Good to know what the device actually was.

I stand corrected; mine was aliased.

    Sounds appropriate.

I have the program as well. My only guess at this point is that the
UX16 is not sending. AMS recognizes it, but sees no midi coming from
it, if I understand you. The supposition is that is not forth coming.

I assume it has lights on the front. When you play the keyboard into
the interface, does it prove that the midi is making it from keyboard
to interface? Have you run any other midi gizmo through it. You can
wire the midi out of your OXY8 through the UX to see.

While on that topic you might scan the net for UX16 drivers.

I have the UX16 and thus far has worked fine with Jaguar. I'm using it with a Roland W30. The UX16 didn't need any attention at all. I just haad to set up my roland. I have noticed as of last week when I updated to 10.2.6 that I'm getting alot of Kernel errors. So I'm currently looking for a new updated driver. If you have this please tell me where I can get it.
