The normal Phosphor Bronze drum has a 1.2mm thick shell. This one is 5mm
thick. Must be some kinda loud, I'm thinking.

That you NEVER have to buy heads! Since it is a solid drum, you get to whack
on a brass slab. I can't imagine this sounds all that good, but with the
money you save on heads you could... ummm... if it saves just ONE child,
    it's worth it! :)

What type of stick tip sounds best on a solid bronze drum? Also, I'm looking
for a stronger-than-usual snare stand for it.

    Glenn D.
  10. rough crowd!

OK.... SOLID as in 5.1 mm thick.... " woah, MAN that's solid!"

    it's obviously NOT a 'N'-PLY bronze shell! : ) ....but is characterized
by the MAPEX folks as a "SOLID BRONZE SHELL" .... I just called them and
their technical guru is unavailable at the moment.... but there ya have it
    folks.....

    a.. 10 LUG
a.. 5.1mm thick SOLID BRONZE shell
    a.. 3.0mm DIE~CAST~HOOPS!
    a.. Single-point / Low-mass lugs
a.. Nylon lug~locks on tension rods
a.. 20 snare strainer w/ (2) TWO tension adjustments: one on the 'throw~off'
AND a second snare-tension adjustment at the opposite side of the
    snare-strainer
a.. Remo Weatherking ~ Ambassadors; coated batter-side head w/ clear
    bottom/resonant head
a.. ALL hardware in 'Black-Chrome' Finish!

The word you're looking for is not SOLID (which apparently must be in all
caps), but Cast. This is a Cast Bronze shell, which generally means no
flanged bearing edges, a heavier wall (typically 3mm+) and a boat
anchor-like weight, as opposed to the more common bent and seamed or spun
(ludwig/sonor) thinner metal shells with edge flanges.

Actually, the name of the drum is Solid Bronze Precious Metal. Whether that

but on a tangent note... maybe Mapex is eluding to the shell composition /
alloy content ??? i.e. not a bronze "over" xxxxxxxxxx alloy ??? dunno, just
    a thought.

dunno, the jury is still out; awaiting technical guru-ness from Mapex to
