depends on the time period. my 1970's 6.5x14 b.b. is nickel over bronze, while
my '92 5x14 b.b. is nickel over brass.

True. Interstate has the 6.5x14 for $363.98. The Mapex bronze in the same
    size is $285.98.

It is a nice drum, but it doesn't hold a candle to a BB, to my ears.

    Glenn,
I got mine (80's 6.5) for $300 used. Many people have stated that they can't
hear any difference between the brass and bronze shells, and that Ludwig
switched back and forth almost at will. The only ones that sound
significantly different are the older two piece brass shell from the 20s-40s
(?). Anyway, if you like the Mapex bronze, check out a BB. It's like going
from fat free rice cakes to cape cod sea salt and vinegar chips. Oh man, I
gotta stop thinking about my diet. :)

Well, you've probably worn it out some more since you got it. $200 sound
    okay?

I'll see what's local. CDP oughta have one.

I think the BBs were made in bronze from the late 70's until 89 or so.
There should be a boatload of them out there, it's just that people don't
    know which one they have.
