what is the best midi pick up, and is it adaptable to any guitar?
will the pickup alone record a sequence in a software like cakewalk,
or is something else required. I am looking at roland products, and it looks
like a box goes with the pickup-(a synth?

Well, you really need a synth like the Roland GR33, the connection from the
GK pickup to the synth is a 13pin affair.
In addition you have to have your software setup to receive the guitar
inputs on channels 11-16 so each string gets a separate channel. Cakewalk
    has a template for this.
The Axon tracks a bit better than the GR but not worth the price for
    recording.
There is actually a better pickup than the GK from Roland but with the GK
adjusted and mounted properly, the difference is not worth the price.
