    Hi

I want to start up a small midi based studio. I've got a budget of around
$6,500. What equipment and stuff would you guys reccomend?

    thanks

Get a powerful computer for music and use softsynths. I've sold over 40 of
my synth modules since "getting into" the softsynths. They are simply
sounding better and better all the time and I can't justify the hardware
    synths like I once could.

Perfect examples of some excellent softsynths are: Spectrasonic's
    Atmosphere & Trilogy, Steinberg's XPhrase, Halion 2.0 and D'Cota, VirSyn's
Cube, & just about anything from Native Instruments (Absynth, B4, FM7, Pro
    53...)
