    Are these midis like musical quality, or do they sound like crappy ring tones??

    Midi quality depends on the skill of the person who sequences them, and also on the quality of the sound module/sound card.

    That being said, the best midi usually still sounds "fake", but not crappy.
    Sound fonts can improve the midi sound though.

    I have to say you have a point,

    I have some files that are as good as the CD but I have some that are not even good enough to be used as ringtones.

    There are several things that make it worth being called decent:

    How it was programmed and what it was programmed on. I use a QY700 using XG protocols to format the files and the correct use of midi cc controls means that you can create some quite decent files.

    As with anything its down to how much attention you pay to the little details.
