My pleasure, Dan. Thanks. Next time, I might not be able to get it
    done so quickly. :)cD

I think what happened, was when that Nickel Strainer broke, it made
    the shell explode. :)

Would you touch an old rogers 8x12 tom that has a minor crack? :) I
would love to set up this old Blue Onyx Rogers kit up since I may be
letting my Gretschs go. I need a dirt bike so I must dump the
    Gretschs.

Depends on the crack. I still have a shell of Anthony's which has a
crack perpendicular to the bearing edge. I can't see how far down
the shell runs because of the wrap.

Please take some pics for me to look at. If they are close up and
as clear as possible, that would help. Do you have a digi-cam?

Thanks, Mark. I'm so anal, I thought I could get it better.
They're real easy to line up, dry. You can get the two side fitting
together, with the grain and friction sort of locking it in place.

The difficult part comes when you put the glue on it, essentially
greasing up the whole thing. You have to have pressure on the
shell, not only pushing the two sided together, but also in round.
I actually had to let it cure out of round, in order for the two
sides to hold together. Other wide there would be a "V" in the
joint. This makes sense because it is the warping of that segment
which caused the crack. You glue it out of round, to fit the "new"
shape of that stave segment, then when you let it go back in round--
especially with drum heads tensioned-- it will bend the stave back
to its original shape, ever so slightly.

I told Dan I wouldn't be surprised if another one cracks, a few
months down the road. I did tell you that, didn't I, Dan? :)
better get a Kevlar case for it, in case it explodes, again. :)oD

I don't see stave shells that thin holding together for a lifetime.
    Thicker ones, maybe.

Yeah...I figure as long as I'm very careful during head changes and try to
keep the tension evenly dispersed, it should be okay. If it cracks again,
I'll just throw all the hardware on a Keller or Worldmax shell. I only paid
$200 for the drum BEFORE it cracked...

Is crack tin foil the same stuff as what my mom used to wrap my sandwich in
every day when she packed my lunch?

If it is, you get about 20 times the foil for the same price. I've ordered a
