what you are referring to is called blu-rey technology. currently it's out in japan only. it's basically used to store hd movies into one blu-ray dvd. i predict this won't be out here in the US until mid or late next year.

blu-ray is currently too expensive for me even in Japan, the burner costs about $2000 USD. It may drop in 3-4 years but I bet the media will still cost a fortune, blank dvd discs are still on the pricey side. The alternative is dual layer, or DL which are like most dvd movies which data is on the same side of the disc and when the laser is done reading the bottom layer, changes frequency and reads the top layer through the bottom layer. I've seen DL drives around for $300-400 but the media for these drives are fairly expensive, and be prepared to make coasters.

It's so tempting to buy a dvd brner
    here for about 70-80 bucks
    and a 100 blank dvd's for 50 bucks

That's almost enough to satisfy me in MY lifetime
I having trouble now keeping up
