Yesterday I thought that webusenet's servers were down. So this morning
I checked the system status and learned that they aren't providing
bellsouth.net anymore. If your isp is bellsouth.net then you're screwed
(again) without so much as a "fuck you very much." No prior notice
whatsoever. Cocksuckers. And yet I've seen three slick bellsouth ads
on tv this morning extolling their dsl services (which the sumbitches
*still* say is unavailable in my area!)

    http://www.webusenet.com/bellsouth/netstatus.php

[Be sure and read the alerts farther down the page...it's horse shit!]

This time I'm diggin' the hole, goddamit!

Okay, I did you (me, and anyone else on Bellsouth) some research. If you're
using a newsreader, use the following as your server address: 65.82.44.187
All other info should stay the same. Webusenet lost their Bellsouth
account, and Bellsouth started hosting it's own usent server at the above
    IP.

    HTH )

Yes, it helped. I guess I can fill that hole back in.)

    Thanks!

BTW, did I miss the memo/email or something? I admit that I never read
their news letters so it's possible that I was just out of the loop....but I
    still hate 'em, lol!

It wasn't downloading the posts until I used the 65.82.44.187 IP address. I
didn't get a "can't find server" msg, it checked off tasks as if it was
working fine, only no downloads. Now it's working better than it has in
    recent memory.

And FWIW, two other threads have began in alt.2600 about this "seamless
upgrade." Conflicting reports abound which is the rule when you're dealing
    with hellsouth.

Mine was either working really really really s l o w, or not at all. That,
and your post here, were what made me go looking for a solution. Don't
bother filling in that hole, I'm sure we can find good use for it! ;o)

I do have mine configured a little differently; I've had problems
downloading the list of newsgroups, so I deleted the account and added it
again without the newsgroup list. When I want to add a new group I make a
link like I did above, and once it opens the group I subscribe to it.

I've also had problems recently with not being able to open messages,
probably as a result of the upgrade. I open the properties on each group and
reset the local file, and then everything works again.
