I just moved the toms from the bass drum mount to a separate double tom =
mount. Is there anything that fits the hole left behind on the bass drum =
mount to close it back up?

I thought I might find a rubber plug at an auto parts store if there is =
    nothing else.

    Thanks,

It's not going to effect the sound, so don't worry about it. Make
yourself a homemade microphone mount that slides down there, so you
have a use for it. :)

He's taking the toms off the kick, so it doesn't matter to him.

I agree. There are pictures on rmmp-net of that. I forget
who posted those. Anyone? Check out the photos. VERY
    cool and easy to build!

I think there is a bit of improvement in the sound of the bass drum with =
the toms and mount removed. Even my girlfriend said it sounded =
    different.=20

One thing's for sure, I like the setup much better. I have four toms, a =
double stand to the left, and a double stand to the right of the bass =
drum. I can position the toms much better now.

Yes, taking the toms off the bass drum affects the sound.... of both
the bass drum and the toms, BTW. That's not what we're talking
    about.

It was my understanding that the original post was talking about
just the mount, not the toms. It said the toms had been mounted on
separate stands. He was wondering if plugging the hole in the shell
from the tom mount would do anything to improve the sound. The
answer is no, it won't be noticeable.
