    ENGLAND AND HOLLAND AND ICELAND

By Crion87, and based on the “Hay and Hell and Booligal” poem by the great Banjo Patterson.

“You’ll come and see me boys,” he said,
    “You’ll find a welcome and a bed
And whisky still you can’t stand!
    Although our nation hasn’t got
The name of quite a nice warm spot
You see, I live in Iceland.

And people have a marking brand
Upon the area and the land
Which colder than Holland itself, they rant
In fact, the saying far and wide,
In our fair young school's pride,
Is ‘England and Holland and Iceland’.

“No doubt it suits ‘em well,
To say it’s about as boring as hell,
They may be right, I’ll have to grant.
Of course there’s cold, no-one denies,
And moss and snow, but hey, few flies,
But there’s beautiful falls here in Iceland.

“But such a pleasant, quiet place,
    You’ll hardly see a stranger’s face,
They hardly ever care to land,
The tourists mostly pass it by –
They reckon that they’d rather die
    Than stay around in Iceland.”

    “The big geysers frighten much,
Maybe you will hear them gush,
And you will probably have to rant,
But Marines, when they get their cheque
They never come along and wreck
    The blessed nation of Iceland.”

“But down to Holland the Marines come,
And fill themselves with fighting rum,
And shoot imaginary devils up the wall,
And fight the brawlers every day
Until there is the damage bill to pay –
There’s none of that in Iceland.”

“Of course, there isn’t much to see,
But you will find the nature to be
The great attraction for you to land,
    Until some careless Texan curs,
Come with machines with their spurs,
And trash the nation of Iceland.”

    “Good thing there isn’t a drought –
But the weather has nearly drove us out
Good thing it never seems be at war at all,
But if the nukes should start to drop,
You couldn’t stay in the US, you sop,
You’d have to land in Iceland.”

“We’d have to land?” With bated breath,
We prayed that both in life and death,
Our fate in other lines might stand:
“Oh send us to our just reward
In Hay or Hell, but gracious Lord,
    Deliver us from Iceland!!”

    My Hidden Heart

Like a rose your sent haunts my harden heart
Your touch quells my beastly soul to a day’s light breeze
You sanctify my thoughts with blessings of pureness
Your smile is like that of a Queens

I dare not stare to long in your eyes
In fear of sanctioning your love
To an end that could only end in lies
With mistrust on our side would we last?

To over come the lust first is a task
We wink wildly but dare not pass
The borders that surround us like glass
Glass that can not be broken or touched

Ho dear sweet warm wanting women
To press my soul to yours even once
Would be a sinful sacred scar forever
Wounding my soul for all time

    Thus my unknowing love
I seal my sin in disguise
And protect your faith with little muse’s
And myself from truths of lies entwined

I’ll see you tomorrow and the day after next
Each day I see you stronger I get.
To resist your loveliness’ I resent
But do this I will for I do it best

Like a rose your beauty fills my eyes
    Your touch chills my soul
    Your laughs make me smile
    Your laughs make me smile

    If Shakespeare was alive

Peering over an old wooden fence
Faces of exhilaration look for hope and discovery
    Asking questions of curiosity
Tears of joy and happiness dawn their eyes
As the huge worker opens the first of many boxes
Down the street shots ring out and silence falls
Everyone stirs still waiting to see friend or foe
They dare not run in fear of flying led headed their way
A time of silence creeps slowly buy
Soon word of a cow slaughter for meat
The feast of opening resumes with a sigh
This is not the life I dreamed we would live
This is not the life I was told we could give
This is not the life of a child in need
T’s the live of hate that we breed
T’s the life of greed that we give
T’s the life of hell on earth in deed it is
Open your eyes and see leaders who are week
Justification of needs to replace the lack of money
Just a blind to the masses of milk and honey
I once saw a an old man drunk in the street
    Collecting bottles for need
Now I see many old and young
    Forging for tin paper
    Forging for glass
Picking for this! picking for that!
In my own back yard for the sake of god
Speak not of it the media is told
Just a bunch of drunks we are told
But wait she is sixty-eight he was thirty-five
Drunks you say I think not
If Shakespeare were alive by god
    If Shakespeare was alive….
But he is not I am
    And so are you
    A change
    A thought
Do we fear our system so bad that
    Trust becomes vain
    And vanity becomes content
    Content with our lives
Till war comes knocking on our very door
Hidden behind the smiles of homeless children
Doth hate brood like an internet virus?

    BURN THE BEAST

    BURN THE BEAST OF 666,
LIKE A BIRD ON A WIRE,
THE LASCIVIOUS SMILE OF FIRE AND ICE ENDLESSLY SHINES… NAY
CEASELESSLY YEARNING THE RISING TIDE OF EMOTION,
    THE DARK, DARK, DARK SUN,
HIDES THE CAT FROM PATTON NOW

    BUT YOU CAN NOT SEE,
    LIKE A HURRICANE THAT
BLINDS YOU AND YOUR PURE MYTHOLOGICAL SONS.
BUT TAKE HEED THAT CASH NOT STEEL YOUR HEART
OUT OF THE JEWEL TO OUR HOUSE
THUS LAYS THE KEY FOR CHURCHILL AND MOA.

GO NOW AND SWARM THE EARTH
SEE YOUR SONS PAST BY THE SUN
IN DISGRACE COMES YOUR SEEING EYES
FUTILE WARNINGS OF ICE AND LOVE
TAKE THIS SCROLL TO YOUR BED.
AND BURN THE BEAST OF 666
AND BURN THE BEAST OF 666

    *smiling - nice poems Mote*

    one of mine:

    Cutting The Strings

    An original thought is not,
It is gleaned from the past,
    Something remembered,
I cast my eyes, to the skies,
But thoughts of the future past
    Assault my memories.
    Sometimes, I sit and wish
    Upon a star,
    Thoughts unravelling as my
    Childhood returns to me.
I am as old as the stars, as
    Fresh as the morning dew.

    Thoughts to freeform wordsmiths,
I wrestle with my ideas, to pull
Them into shape, like soft red clay
    They ooze through strong fingers
I catch at a form but it eludes me,
    Unformed and melting to nothingness.

This life, all we have and as yet
Nothing, I am passed by again,
I have not yet caught at the threads
This life in tatters , unfurling as
Dropped stitches in a child's tapestry.
A fresh start, no strife in my life ?
What would I feel if I was blank canvas,
No colour, no brush strokes, emotionless,
    Motionless, perhaps, arriving nowhere.
Touch this face, read these eyes, turned
    Inwards. Mindless.

Tracing the contours of unsmiling lips,
    Words unuttered, trip over themselves
As they spill over, rolling like ocean waves,
Breaking in futility on sandless shores
    Bleak desert sandstorm, blizzard whiteout
Arriving eventually on no one's doorstep.
A arm snakes out, gathers in the folds
Wraps a cloak of darkness around my being
, Plunged into the deep, darkness, amoeba like
A single cell life form, blessed simplicity
    Shrinking into myself when prodded,
    Stimulation barely impacting.

For aeons drifting like this, timeless, wrapped
In shrouds of my making, shifting, turning
A pseudopod drifting aimlessly in time currents
. Light strikes, harsh but warming. There is a rift
In my space time continuum. The black hole
    Of my existence implodes.

Indivisible particles, torn apart, immense forces
Nucleus bombarded, fission then fusion occurring,
Pent up energies released, light and heat generate
A new life forms into a spiral galaxy, decaying,
Unstable nucleus and release energy creating
Alpha, Beta, Gamma half-life and natural growth.

Mote - I love your Hidden Heart poem
Felida - wow, you can write! I'm afraid to post my own poetry, it seems weak compared to yours!

    When Our Eyes Could See
    by Me
    We were once so young
With our lives so free of care
    Our bodies kept from harm
    Our eyes from foolish dare
    It happened oh so slowly
    That the hidden world emerged
When we saw what life was like
    And received what we deserved

    Our lives were changed forever
    No childish whims remained
    No longer were we sheltered
From a world of such disdain

    And as the blindfold lifted
And our eyes could see for true
    We struggled and constructed
    A barrier all anew

For what we saw we did not see
The truth was all too great
Though it happened far from quickly
And in our minds was second rate

We had lived in safe deception
For a day or year too long
And though the truth was mighty
Forced beliefs were all too strong

Another poem... I've chosen these two at random, most of my poetry is too depressing :) I don't wnat to make anyone depressed by reading my poetry, so i've tried to find... less depressing... poetry :)

    Childhood Train
    by me

    Gone to soon
    Lost at a glance
    The childhood train
    Flies speeding past
    Forever lost
    Yet short as day
    Mind mature
    No youth to stay
    Grown to soon
    Alone in mind
    The childhood train
    Long left behind
    Always wishing
    Though wish in vain
    To join the long lost
    Childhood train

Catching no more than a glance,
The childhood train flys speeding past
Forced to grow up all to fast…
    Childhood but a dream…

    Rage Plagues

Rage plagues my heart and mind when I see inequitable causes burnt in stone and sand for the sake of commerce greed.

The cause of war comes forth in many ways, but as mighty as one we shall see, like a blinded tiger, or a wounded snake war comes rushing in bent on blood, and death.

Your sons lay in blooded fields, while your daughters tear as they bury memories of lost cold souls that had no end, for a life that was hot with passion.

Power is a corrupt thing that only we can give, and we give it freely to those that would slay the earth in all its blossom barren beauty.

If we keep our power, and let it not, seek the rage that haunts all men’s souls, there would be no power, but our own.

The gates of hell opened that day, when Nostradamus’s words rang throughout the heavens like a voice from the past, and the shock wave rippled round the earth like a comet’s tail made of pure icy glass.

The time is near, the horsemen I see bearing down on the earth from sea to bloody sea.

Tomorrow brings another day, more blood and violence, thieves in flight, new laws and nations, masquerading for us, as if to fight for our plights.

While you play your games of fantasy, in luxury, on the highest mountains of the gambling state, comes the woeful warring winds.

While children play their games of war in fields so gray, round trees so bare, of sandy earth, comes the woeful warring winds.

While leaders plot their profit for the day, and make their women save over hot unwanted work, comes the woeful warring winds.

And all the while we sit and wait in our hypnotic state, of dreams that we save and wild, comes the woeful warring winds, comes the woeful warring winds.

    The Old Folks Revolution

The old folks are having a revolution
    Flushing toilets and flipping lights.
A strange habit for old folks so nice.
They pay their rent, and taxes too.
But would have known how well they could screw.
“The light bill is ten times what is was before!”
“And there’s a raging river running on the basement floor.”
The old folks just smile, and pretend their gay.
Doing the things they do every day.
Hording the salt, the pepper, any that management would give away.
“Someone took the flowers from the hall, toilet paper from the stalls,
Even the paper towels off the bathroom wall!”
The old folks took ever single little thing until one day
    The management change.
The old folks were having a revolution
    And every little tricked worked
    They won their war.
    No shots were fired
    No one got hurt.
    No riots to speak of,
    No shouts were heard.
“I need a new light in my suite young man,
And could turn up the heat, I’m as cold a clam.”
“Right away Mr. X, I’ll be there in a flash!”
He wouldn’t want another revolution like the one they had last!

    Love is like

Like silver love is, tarnish it not, keep it pure
Like a bird love is, longs to be free, cage it not
Like a tree love is, standing firmly rooted, water it well
Like a flower love is, loves rain and sunshine, grow it shall

    Hell

You think you know what hell is, you think on gothic lines.
Well you have no idea what hell is, until you lived my life.
And when you see the sun rise, you think you must hide.
But hell doesn’t end there, Gothic is so blind

Have you stared starvation scar in the face?
Have you face violence with disgrace?
Have you been a victor with malevolence?
Have plotted your gain with obsequious words?

Take my hand and come with me,
To the land of dust and gray from sea to sea.
See you will the evil and grace,
Of wicked men and women of lace.

Then I smite thee down into the flames of hell with a wink of my eye.
Your demons bound your arms and legs and open gates to hell.
Your dreams ring with words of mine, one lash across your body
Just for being vein, one lash across body for being vein, vein, vein.

I wave my hand and sky’s turn gray, a gift from God,
I hated that day, Satan told me to be a saint of hell.
Rebel I did in every way, until I won and slay the devil
Of the deepest cave of my mind, my hidden vine.

Lust comes rushing in, like a river of blood!
I rip your closes from your body and see you lucid!
I star in your eyes till you move with grace!
Escape you not, till your soul is mine, for a moment in time!

You are a slave but not a slave.
You are a raven but not a bird.
You are a witch, but have beauty.
You are a body, but have no bones.

    Ecstasy, ecstasy, ecstasy, I give.
Ecstasy, ecstasy, you can not hold.
Inside your soul, soon you find a hole.
    In your armor of heart.
And now your trap of love
And now your trap of hate
    A trap of lust
    A trap of slate
    Slate of hate
    Slate of mind
    Slate of gifts
    Slate of livingness
    Slate of love
    Slate of love
    Slate of love

Love is hell, but hell is the suffering of lost friends and souls and rainbows once held.
But then you find your magic staff and sand it till its gold.
Rule it like kings of heaven, then all of conquered hell!
Rule it like a king hell, heavens dissolutions!
    I’ve conquered hell many times.
I’ve conquered evil with one eye.
    A wink, a flick today’s refuse.
To hell with hell it’s just a hole!
I step over with my foot, my foot so small.
    Hell is small.
    Hell is cold.
    Hell is lost.
    Hell id lost.
    Hell is mine.
    Hell is yours.
    Hell is gone.
    There is no more.
    There is no more.
    There is no more.
    No more.
    No more.
    No.

    I Am Man

Oops I killed nature, accidentally of course
    I declared war of drugs!
    I declared war on thugs!
    I declared war on evil!
I declared war on the dog next door...
But no wars have been won.
I’m still at war, cleaning up the mess of the past.
Bodies laying in the streets politics
In the name of God, to hide my shame
Blood of others running though my veins
Secrets telling lies on pages of past
No trials, no judgments, just time to past
I’ve conquered all but space I’m told
But wait! There’s more for me to hold
Be bold in cynical quest, for desires of old
The Lions lay a sleep in the shirking grass
The Whales swim happily alone in the ocean so vast
What does that have to do with mythology
Let the forest burn, take that sign out of my face
I KNOW HOW TO RUN THE HUMAN RACE!
    Oops I killed nature……
    Accidentally of course…
    I Am Man.

    A short Story.

    The Cobb’s

Grabbing Marshal’s shirt, “No Marshal! Don’t go that way, I’ve told you a hundred times you can not cut through there.”
“Ho ya dad, I forgot” wiping his nose Marshal proceeds side by side with his dad.
“How could you for get, you remember what happened to Sparky” Letting go of Marshal Shirt he holds his hand tightly.
“Ya he got all bitted up by the insects” Says Marshal with his head looking to the ground
“That’s right, now you remember that, the last thing we need is for you to get all bitten up, Right!”
    “Right on dad!”
“Come on, let’s get in the house”
Walking down the pathway Mr. Cobb sees his wife sitting on top of the family car, and appears to be in tears. “Cathy!” he calls out.
Cathy turns and sees Mark and Marshal walking toward her, and in a panic she screams out “Run… Run to the car quickly!”
Mark suspecting what’s up, picks up Marshal and puts him over his shoulder and runs as fast as he can to the car. When he gets there one foot hits the bumper and up he fly’s.
“Hey we made it Marshal” Mark turns to Cathy “what is going on?”
Cathy points to the house porch “do you see that?”
“Ho my god…how long have they been there?
“All day” a small tear runs down Cathy’s face.
Mark leans over the side of the car to see if it is safe to get in the car.
“Ok on the count of three. We get in the car and drive into town and go to the police station.”
“Ok...” Mary looks at Mark “you first”
So Mark, Mary and Marshal get in the car and drive into town, and as they drive they sense an eerie wilderness around them. There are fewer birds this spring, fewer then last year. The wind blows the branches of the trees softly, but the silence of the land haunts them. Marshal falls asleep in the back of the car. Mark looks back at Marshal, “What kind of a world will he be living in? Cathy?”
In a low angry tone she glares at Mark, “What kind of a world did you expect Mark? I told you that god dam genetic corn, and your genetic wheat, and carrots, and everything else you want to grow was not a good idea. Insects my dear will survive longer than mankind ever will. Did your scientist ever think that not all the insects would die, that some of them would find another food source. Insects are very adaptable, unlike so men I know!”
Mark staring at the road “Well what can I do? Almost every farm in the country now has GM food products, and they make money.”
Cathy giving Mark a loving punch on the arm “Fuck the money, fuck the god dam money, did you see the insects all over our house, and what if we were asleep? We would have been just another larva’s meal.”
“Ok, ok Cathy, were going to have to sell the farm, we’ll move to the city and start another business”
“I don’t think so Mark, were going to fight this, were going to sue the GM products manufacturer, and the government if we have to, before the insects take over the god dam world“
Mark looks at Cathy “umm ok, that’s a good idea” Mark parks the car in front of the police station. They go in side to tell there story. The couple go back to the house with the police. Hours of filling out endless paper work. The police go over, and over their story. The police call in the government pest control experts.
Six months later an older man is standing in front of the Cobb’s house with another man who is planning on buying the farm. “So who owned this house, before the government took it over?”
Scratching his head “I think it was the Cobb’s farm, real funny thing, one day they just disappeared, never paid the taxes on the farm, so the government had to seize it.”
“Really… well I’ll think about making an offer on the farm Mr. Piketon” and at that the lone man gets into his pick up truck and drives away. You see the man was Cathy’s brother who she had called that day the insects invaded her house. ‘I wonder what happen’ he thought to himself. ‘I’ll find out … I’ll find out.’

Very simple song for a very simple man
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand
Well his the guy who runs the Conner store, and when he asked for your help you just closed the door.
Well his smile is warm enough to melt the snow; he's the richest man yet the poorest man I know
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand
Well anyway we tripped on down to the sparks street mall, were the guitar man was give it his all,
There were two guys on the side getting into a fight, and the preacher man looked up and said hay god it's not right
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand
So latter we when down to the canal, and watched the sun rise
There were all kinds of people looking for love, but not one of them could even give a hug
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand
Well we when out looking for a job and the man power man said you mite as well go out and rob
So the next day we went out looking for a gig and we got put in jail for something we never did
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand
Well don't worry folks he's still out on the road, trying to get a job at anything he mite know
And his smile is warm enough to melt the snow; he's the richest man yet the poorest man I know
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll try to do all he can
Very simple song for a very simple man he'll even shake your hand

    A pool of love

I want to plunge into the pool of love
And see what love can derive
I want to test my fate
And see what I can curate
I see a wall of people trying' to hide
All the love that they fell inside
    Afraid to test their fate
Afraid of what love can curate
Every time I see you cry
    It makes me wonder why
    People fall in love
Only to get hurt once again
I want to plunge into the pool of love
And see what love can derive
I want to test my fate
And see what love can curate
I want to run by the river side
I want the sun to blind my eyes
I what to live my life
    Instead of trying' to hide
Fall in love and to hell with aids
Now we're living in a darkened age
    Must love run and hide?
    Behind a factious pride
Every time I see you cry
    It makes me wonder why
    People fall in love
Only to get hurt once again

    A distant shore

She sees him riding in the wind
The man whose hart she's going to win
But there are clouds looming beyond the shore
This man of hers is fighting an ancient war

She sees him riding in the wind
Like a knight he is going to win
    Some old ancient crusade war
His hart is hard and his mind takes to the sword

She sees like a bird in the sky
Her hart she’s giving' for him she'll die
Like an eagle she will protect
This love of hers to the end, the end

She sees him riding in the wind
The man whose hart she says she’s going to win
But he doesn't love her anymore
His hart is hard and his mind takes to the sword

Well now she’s alone once more
Her hart been wash upon a distant shore
And her hart is harder than it was before
Well that is the toll of love and war

Well now she’s riding in the wind
Like an eagle she will mend
The open wounds form an ancient war
This hart of hers she won't close the door

Well now she’s waiting on a distant shore
Testing the waters opening the door
    Waiting for something to begin
Waiting for something in the wind...in the wind

    Just like me

    I've done everything I can
I've done everything as a man
But all I see is the sky fallen on me
    Work hard every day
    To bring home the pay
And try to save some dignity inside of me
Inside of me inside of me all I see is sky falling on me
There are things you'd like to say
But you go on from day to day
And you know you can't go on
Living in misery just like me
Just like me just like me
All I see is the sky falling on me
    Work hard every day
    To bring home the pay
And try to save some dignity inside of me
    I've done everything I can
I've done everything as a man
But all I see is the sky fallen on me
Fallen on me fallen on me
All I see is the sky falling on me
There are things you'd like to say
But you go on from day to day
And you know you can't go on
Living in misery just like me
Just like me just like me
All I see is the sky falling on me
Just like me just like me
All I see is the sky falling on me
    Work hard every day
    To bring home the pay
And try to save some dignity inside of me

    I've done everything I can
I've done everything as a man
But all I see is the sky fallen on me
Fallen on me fallen on me
All I see is the sky falling on me

    Fifteen sparrows

Fifteen sparrows feasting on my lawn,
It’s the only life they’ll ever lead.
Smoked filled room with coffee and tea
It’s the only life I care to lead
As the sun sets in the sky,
    Mans worries will never die.
And as the sun sets in the sky,
I can hear the babies cry.
As the sun sets in the sky,
I can hear the mother sigh
And As the sun sets in the sky,
    An another soldier dies
Hard, hard, it’s a hard life to live
Man gets up at a quarter to six,
Works his hart out till it bleeds
    Young boy died today,
No food for him to eat.
Hard, hard, it’s a hard life to lead,
Doesn’t it make your hart bleed.
And as the sun sets in the sky,
    Mans worries will never die.

Snowdragon .. Thank you .. but you are wrong .. you write lovely poetry I enjoyed both of yours very much ! Mote writes fantastic stuff as well.

I will post a love poem now :)

    Forbidden Love

Two in love, She, unknown princess,
as fair as the moon, usually borne
    inside a magnificent paIanquin above.
    He, unknown soldier of fortune,
darkly handsome, bearing only her heart.
    Forbidden love.

Love and transfiguration now she runs
on pale, soft naked feet. They run from
    bewitchment, banishment,
    imprisonment. Using silken ladders,
    a raft of sandalwood,
    a magic flying carpet sent.

Within their hearts they hold locks
    and keys to hidden rooms.
The seventh door of the seventh palace,
each with the taste of dreams.
Oh moon of moons, star of stars,
    Hear our screams.

They listen to a lute plucked
    with a sharpened goose quill.
    The notes dropped into
the liquid air as they vanish
    into the friendly dark.
    Fragrant with flowers,
    lit with guiding stars,
the sound of a hounds bark

Hand in hand, lighter than birds,
    their eyes holding fast
    to the other, they fly
    through the air, Held warm
    within their love. Feeling how
    softly now within her mind,
his hand in a silken glove

    With a gentle gaze,
he gives to her a golden key,
And asks, Unlock the life you guide.
Within water, the bringer and giver
of life, formless I am, Drifting,
turning under a moon pulled tide

Without benefit of the blink of an eye,
my cell multiplies and I divide.
    Sentient now. Aeon after aeon,
age after age, I strive for the light.
My formless self wants to be free
    of this earthly cage

By his words they break free.
She, buoyed up by his love.
He by her hopes and cares.
    Through time and space,
    their spirits soar,
    stars burn in the heavens,
can there ever be more ?
