I am a digital musician and I own legal copies of both Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and the newer Cakewalk Sonar XL 2.0. I have been using Pro Audio 9 since 1998 and use it everyday so I have an advanced knowledge of the software. I recently downloaded and installed Pro Tools Free, which is avalible free of charge from the digidesign corporate web page (www.digidesign.com), and after much consideration have decided that there are no real advantages to Pro Tools over Cakewalk as a MIDI editor. Now as a master program I think it is accually better than Cakewalk, because of its advanced mastering features, but Red Roaster (www.sekd.com) offers a more comprehensive solution which I like even better. So when it comes down to it I really think that it is personal preferance.
