    do these files work like midi fileS?

    If you mean karaoke files, then yes, more or less. The difference is that they include lyrics for you to follow.
    Some programs may be able to play mid, but not kar files, though.

    so, i would not be able ot put .kar files as a ringtone on my cell phone, right?

    if your cell phone accept .mid file....well just rename the extension .kar to .mid ...it will not affect in any way the file...and the lyrics will still be on it....
