Do you think people are overreacting the the comment the Dixie Chicks lead singer made in England about being ashamed to call Bush a fellow Texan? Or do you agree they should be blackballed and their CD's destroyed. What do you music afficianado's think?
Was it their right to free speech and the artist's responsibility to make public statments about current events etc...or unpatriotic? Many other artists have spoken up against Bush and the war--should the Chicks be singled out? Or was their statement somehow more inflamatory or unpatriotic than others? I'm isnterested in what you think. Thanks, Terry

Patriotism is a load of crap anyway. You'll notice how people only stick by their country when it's doing well. If you're a true patriot you stand by your country when it's going down the toilet as well, and people today just aren't that commited. I know I'm not. It's complete chance where you end up being born. The Dixie Chicks could just have likely been born in Iraq, so their comments on Bush don't really matter, in the grand scheme of things.

Gee-no one seems to have an opinion about this--or to care enough to post it. This past weekend one of our gigs where they like lots of country music asked us to be sure and NOT sing any Dixie Chicks songs. And last week on American Idol Simon made a comment that one of the young contestants who is a blond country singer should replace the lead singer for the Chicks now, expressing disfavor for her comments. I figured as fellow musicians some of you would have some opinion about fellow artists exercising free speech and being trashed for it. The issue isn't whether you agree with them or not, but should they have spoken out? Was it what she said or just how she said it? Anyone have any thoughts? Terry

If I can't say anything good, I won't say anything at all.

There's a little McCarthyism going on out there right now. Look at how the actors are also being labelled as unpatriotic for questioning the war effort. As a Canadian I listen to talk radio telling of economic sanctions for not offering support for US foreign policy. Scary thing this democracy!

I don't usually get involved in this sort of topic, but the Dixie Chicks are copping a bum rap. They are probably echoing the thoughts of a portion of the population, but because they are in the public eye, they are supposed to conform???? What a load of rubbish. Watch Jay Leno and Conan O'brian, and see what they have to say....continually.....every time they are on tv. It's unfortunate that the dixie chicks are being treated this way over something that I believe is quite minor compared to what a lot of other 'stars' are saying. I think our prime minister(australia) is wrong in his stance, and will say so if asked. I know a lot of other people feel this way. Heaven forbid someone with a high profile shoud say what I feel, for fear of being shot down in flames by self opinionated people wanting their 2 seconds of fame by trying to censure free speech.
    Good on the Dixie Chicks.

I think a lot of people would'nt actually give a toss what the Dixie Chicks think anyway.
I think Bush is an idiot myself but that's another story.
