    Roland virtual sound canvas reply

    Hi,

I have the Roland virtual sound sound canvas, and I'm using it

    with Cakewalk's Sonar sequencing software.

I have no problems with mine.

All I can suggest is to unistall this and re-install it.

If this doesn't work, try to download a new version of this from

    www.cakwalk.com

    OR

Go to www.Download.com and download KAZZA MEDIA DESKTOP

And run this program, then search for the roland sound canvas under the software option.

usually it is caused by a stuck pitch bend...

try and send a control 121 (GM Reset)

I use Virtual Sound Canvas on a mac with Digital Performer.
    I have not had problems.

Have you tried pressing the reset button on the VSC contol panel. That will reset all of the controllers including pitch bend.

Check your sequences for pitch bend data or Roland system exclusive data that may change the pitch bend range.

I also use a roland sound canvas....sometimes when i'm listening to songs, and then notes start to bend, they bend out of tune and all sorts of wierd stuff occurs. All i do is turn my sound canvas off and on, and it's fixed. :D

Finally I found a post about the Edirol Roland VSC being out of tune.

In Sonar 2, I layed out a base track in piano roll view. Layed down some guitar tracks. Everything was fine.

Next day I Load it, press play, and I hear a god aweful mess.

I spend an hour or more searching menus to see if i might have messed up a setting. Found nothing.

Put my chromatic tuner on an monitor port. Went to piano roll, play Different Notes, I believe in the D2 area. Every thing is about 40 cents flat.

Have no idea how to fix it.

But it makes VSC useless unless I want to tune all my guitars to the VSC output. I found if i set the tuner to 437 Hz it would be OK. Default reference for the tuner is 440. But just think of the havoc this would cause when I deside to add a harmonica.

Look on the web for a midi file called gmreset.mid and gsreset.mid. These are reset midi files for Roland synths that may help.

You might add a GM reset in the header of your midifile.
Add a system exclusive event with the following numbers:
    F0 7E 7F 09 01 F7

Also check for pitchbend data that has detuned a (or some) track(s). If the notes on a track don't bend, the pitch bend data has to be: data byte1 = 0 ; data byte2 = 64.

You might consider to add a center pitch bend event in your file header, but inserting a GM reset does the same.

    Kind regards,
    Alain
