    Hi,
I'm about to replace my ageing 486 with a new pc. Thing is the old one has a nice Yamaha SW60XG card which sounds great. I dont want to spend too much on the new machine - so whats the best option for sound, either buy a softsynth like the SY50XG, or buy a decent soundcard for the new machine.BTW how good are motherboard type soundcards that come with most new machines? Cheapest options please

    Thanx

Regardless of whether or not you use a softsynth, the output will still go through your audio card outputs so in my book, spend the money on a decent quality, low noise (and latency) sound card and don't worry so much about onboard synth capability.

Having a native synth onboard your card isn't as much of an advantage as it used to be since software synths have improved greatly.

    Good Luck!
