    Hey guys,
We’ve got a pretty good track record with orchestrating and implementing new ideas around here. The last one was the MIDIHub.

Voice of God and I were testing out the new HUB earlier today, and he popped out an idea that I immediately liked and wanted to run by everyone.
We were discussing the possibility of getting a group of us here together to sequence MIDI files.

I has suggested (some time ago) that we get a bunch of us together and do some cooperative sequencing – an idea that really didn’t go anywhere
But this would be a broader and altogether different concept.
I would like to know who would be interested in forming/joining a board sequencing group.

This could go off in any of several directions:
? Custom Sequencing requested or popular files.
? Reopening the Self-Sequenced forum and a Cooperative Sequencing Forum…
? Sequencing Professional style files for sale to the board, or via a/this/whatever website (this could possibly replace Hitrax here in the future ?)

There are several possibilities for this – maybe even business opportunities that could generate some spare cash for those involved, this site, etc…
Not looking at this idea with delusions of grandeur, it might be nothing more than a hobby-type group for recreation. Or it could turn out to be a serious music machine that could get some serious attention…

First of all, I’d like to know who would be interested in forming a Sequencers Group, who would be interested in joining.
Secondly, lets kick this idea around a bit – I think at the very least it would be a good thing for the boards here!

Great Idea. I have been Unmotivated to sequencing of late as I have had nothing to sequence for.

I think the last thing I sequenced from scratch was that DJ Sammy song........and for about 2 months it was the only release of it available...commercial sites took that long ...and to my knowledge it is the only free one available on the web(well it was 2 months ago..this is the internet after all)

I also believe that different elements will bring in different sequencing abilities...For instance VOG does Great Drum and Bass tracks....I handle keys/pads fairly well......and I am sure there are other members that have specialties in various areas of Sequencing that could contribute equally...

Count me in on this. I'm not that great at the sequencing but consider myself good at tidying up things and touching them up.

Perhaps a good way to go would be to try and do those songs which just can't be got anywhere. There are loads of posts looking for songs which many people just can't find anywhere.

That's what we were thinking Dave.
Everyone's got a different nitch. I've heard work done by many members here, and they all have their shining points... Many of you guys are just unfrickinbelievable sequencers. Anyone who check out files in the self-sequenced forum while it was open can vouch for that.

    Amen Ronny -
In the amount of time I spend looking for different stuff on the net (whether it be for me or to fill a member request) I could have sequenced everything myself... Twice!

Good responses so far - keep the opinions comin in!

yes! I agree with everything said so far

now imagine Dave if u got paid for your DJ Sammy track (would've made a packet)

I would like to do new files and sell them for a reasonable price(hopefully cheaper than anyone else)

do any of u know of www.mystiqal.com - it used to be a free site with resident sequencers, now its turned into a paysite, same files but theyre just charging for them (I've heard some of their files and their sequencers have nothing on the ones here at MB)

they have some interestng ideas - like custom sequences(made to order) check out the site and you'll see what I mean.

I think if we aim to please the gigging musos and make quality backing files we could do well with this

here are some MB members who I think we could ask to see if they're interested-

    Merlin, Miditibi - pros
DJ Ralph, KB productions - dance hiphop
Jeanie ,Zel, Me, Dave, Ronny, Penny
gnr - he had guitars down pretty well
I'd have to check the self seq'd for others coz Im sure theres more

but these are just ideas, maybe these ppl will be interested maybe not, but if you are a sequencer and are keen about this idea let us know

I like the idea of working as a team as Dave mentioned
I tend to stick to drums and bass and can do these pretty quickly.
If I laid down a basic drum track then passed it onto a couple of other sequencers, one doing keys one doing guitars, vocals , melody etc, while they were doing this I could do bass or tweak the drums we could get a file down fairly quickly.

We should do new files that are hugely popular and could be used for live backing(as I think most files bought are by gigging musos) to target the biggest audience and get them done quickly before anyone else.

It would take some good communication between sequencers as to which file to do and who does what part, final mix etc but I'm sure we could do it.

Also if u want to sequence by yourself thats cool but Im interested in forming a team.

    more opinions please.......

If I had a dollar for every time that song was downloaded I would have $1701 ;)

haven't seen miditibi on the boards for a bit..........

Post your interest ppls......lets see if we can get another Idea off the ground

Great idea guys. At the moment i would be the same as Ronny in that i have a knack for editing / touching up / hopefully improving files rather than sequencing from scratch. I'm still learning but i learn fast. Most of the midi's we gig with were unusable when i found them but now they sound a lot better after some editing.
When i improve my sequencing skills i would happily post my creations here for everyone...but in the meantime, yes this is a great idea and please keep me posted.

Count me in too ... I have a few I have sequenced for scratch but every file I use on stage has been tweeked in some way.

A question though ... would this be in violation with HitTrax and their agreement with the board? I would not wish to hurt MB in anyway.

But yes this would be a great addition to the MidiHub

There are a number of ways we could go about this... It might be somewhat of a conflict of interests being hosted on the same server as MB... That's John's call.
We should probably host it seperately anyway - but let's get John's input on that.

    Oh yeah!

...Can guys like me apply? I mean...not to down the probably long list of killer sequencers here...but I'd like to think that after seeing that I can successfully sequence some stuff...(finally realizing and utilizing the potential of the program I have, after a year or three...). I don't know if you have anyone who's a big rock sequencer already, but I do have alot of rock songs I'd love to do/see done...and would be glad to help out..despite being virtually unknown...

If I'm being unreasonable or w/e....just tell me to f*ck off, and I'll understand...;)

Well, slap my hog and call me a yokel....I guess I'll apply or sign up or whatever you guys need...

Are there anymore concrete ideas as to how this might be brought about? Or are the suggestions already listed the "blueprints" for such a group?

I think I'm going to start a (temporary) new Private Forum for further discussions...

If you have an opinion on wheher this Guild idea is a good idea or not, post it here.

If you want to "sign up" to become a "member" of the Sequencers Guild - at least post in the poll here, and send me a PM or Email.
Set you up to access the Private Forum.

Sound like a good idea? This topic would get too confusing in one thread alone...

    Fantastic idea!!!

This is what I've been waiting for. I used to post my files on Mystiqals site before she/they bacame a pay site.
All of the ideas expressed so far are reasonable and should be implemented in some way. The idea of a "team" approach is very appealing. By utilizing everyone's strengths the type of "product" that can be offered would be untouchable. I trust some of the files I've picked up on the MB better than ones I've paid for in some (though not all) cases.
But please don't make it necessary to involve everyone all the time. My "day" job as an RN/Paramedic is a twelve hour shift. I could go days without even logging on to the net, never mind sequencing. Making a "sequence-a-day" minimum to remain on the team would kill me.
However, what I lack for the most part is motivation. And this would certainly motivate me. One of my band-mates and I spend a lot of time putting new files together for our "weekend warrior" band. It's always dissapointing when the song only last three months and then is considered "overplayed" (radio and videos of new/top forty have made this an annoying part of all our musical escapades).
I think it would be far more rewarding to be able to sell them, thereby reinforcing that the time and effort is indeed worthwhile.
I haven't been able to get my Mac to open up to the Midihub so I know I'm missing out on quite a bit, but please make sure I'm including in this venture.

    Let's make this happen!

how about we all do a thing like they did on a british tv program called "tomorrows world" a few years back where everyone submitted simple little things like loops, drum beats, etc etc and they eventually all mixed together a fantastic song! why not try that? if someone can show me how to get midi sequances OUT of a casio CTK671 then I have loads
