I'm in 2 bands that have live drummers but I'm looking to sequence drums for some of my originals.

Since the songs aren't completely written yet, anybody have any tips for getting a nice groove going that I can write to?

There are plenty of ways!! You could download some drum loops from any site..Try Pearl or some other Drum Web site. They are playeable in any Media player. Just hit the loop button on your player and the beat will play over and over. Fruity loops works well for creating drum patterns. Midi is okay if you have a decent sound card. if not they always sound cheesy. The loops are the way to go just for rehearsing stuff on your own though...
    Happy playing...
