Truss Rod Question

Discussion in 'rec.music.guitar' started by David Cochran, Aug 31, 2003.

  1. Has anyone seen a neck with the truss rod adjustment on the side of the neck
heel ( treble side/ lower horn) instead of at the headstock or the bottom of
the neck heel? I've seen a picture but can't find any info on it. Thanks.

    Never. Why do you ask?

A L-O-N-G time ago I saw a truss rod that had a *transmission* that
converted the adjuster to a right angle. This one was designed to be
adjusted through the heel of the neck by removing the heel cap. There's no
reason why it couldn't have been installed to be adjusted as you've
    described.

For the life of me I can't remember where I saw it.

    All the best,

I found out Gotoh makes something called the side adjuster.

This is the only page I can find on it.

I've got one on my warmoth. It actually has two adjusters. One at the heel
for getting the tension roughly set, and then once you have the neck
installed, you use the side adjuster for making any further adjustments. So
long as nothing is radically changed, you shouldn't need to take the neck
off once you've installed it. It's also a double expanding truss rod. This
means that you can bow the neck both ways.
