I can manage a scale on a Tonganese arse flute if that gets under the
    qualification bar?

Actually, has anyone seen a percussionist called Alan 'Gunga' Purves, I came
across him a few years ago with Andy Shepherd's band, he plays tin whistles
each stopped at a different note and has 3 in his mouth, 1 in each nostril,
3 connected to kids bellows on each foot and a selection of bellow driven
kids toys for his hands, he also has a bell on his forehead - it's very
peculiar and hugely entertaining. Alan's a great bloke, a tight player with
a mini kit - cool grooves.

    As you were

I've never heard it called a "qualification bar" before. Does it actually
    play in that orientation?

Not sure. I've never seen one, but if you Google "Nose Flute" you'll learn
(as I did) that there are several different varieties. Is there more than
one variety of the Arse flute?? :)
