Whats a karioki file?

    How is a karioki file differrent then a midi file (I've never seen ka files before)

    there are 2 kind karaoke files. one is almost the same as midi format 1, other is something similar, but compressed, that meens that usual midifile players and most sinthesizers wil not play them.

    Karaoke files (.kar) are most often MIDI files with embedded lyrics.... you can change the extension from .kar to .mid by simply renaming it on your drive and it should work in most MIDI players etc.

    .mid files SOMETIMES have words embedded, but not always, so the reverse is not always true.

    I guess i'll find a karaoke(thanks spin) file to see if my computer plays it. i think it should. i have 4 dif players.

    So are these better than midi files?

    They are structurally the same, but instead also contain lyrics that are automatically displayed on cue by certain MIDI players.
