    I have a network
(main PC computer routed and firewalled to 1 extra PC computer )
My problem started during a storm
which seemed to have knocked the Slave ethernet card out of commission.
    (Q#1 .. can this happen?)

I've released and renewed the ipconfig command to no avail.
I've gone to the dlink site to clone my mac address without any success.
    Q#2 Shold I switch to wireless ?
Q#3 What do I need to purchase on top of Wireless router
    EG. ethernet cards,hubs cables ..etc
Q#4 Can I Restore xp on slave backwards to before... THE STORM?

    (I'm totally unknowledgeable
on anything past this point of conversation )

Any help from the MB community would be appreciated

Sorry, I know too little about networking. There are many support forums that dedicate their discussions entirely to networking. You should try one of those.

I guess I'll try replacing the ethernet card first.
The phone co. camed over and replaced the junction box
    so something happened that night.
I'm glad I turned puter off for the night ...
 would suck big-time if the HDrive had fried!

    update

well I tried to use xp restore to a previous date to see if problem was related to some driver deleted or whatever .. no luck ... it wouldn't restore to any previous date ... weird.

so i bought a new ethernet card for the slave network ... still no luck

talking to a neighbor ...he said he had the same problem and the phone co. replaced his modem ........... mine still works .......arghhghg

he also told me his tv screen changed color after a particular strike and had shut it off and restarted tv to a full complete screen ... that was exactly what happened to me with the same resolution ..

seemed to have narrowed down the timeline...

Well, I use wireless networking in my home, with 2 pc's.
One hardwired to the router (it's easy just put it between the pc and the modem)

And one upstairs with a wireless networking card, setup is extremely easy and should only take you a few minutes.

    all you would need to purchase is the router and the pci card, there's several different choices, but I think the cheaper ones will do you just fine, here's an example;

back together ..and it's working like
    nothing happened .......

To Conclude this thread it turns out the lightning
fried the usb connection on the motherboard,
so I replaced with new component hardware USB
to open slot and am running a cable to the front with extensions.

Just a reminder to use surge protection power strips.
I used a generic but it wasn't good enough.
I'm saving up now ....they are a small fortune. :flamemad:

i'm going to have to cut back on the brewskies. :exasper:
